Finally got round to having a go at this. Opinions, suggestions, feedback all welcome:

To the tune of MOVE OVER DARLING by DORIS DAY ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2URu1KA4KQ )

Since the credit crunch
Move over Darling
We can't afford much
Moreover Darling
Those big bushy eyebrows are no big surprise anymore
Found the dye on the floor

We failed with our spin
It's over Darling
Dissent from within
Moreover Darling
And though it's not right, I'm too weak to fight Cameron now
Though I will try somehow

The way, you sigh,
Has me waving number ten bye-bye
You can say that I'm looking rough
But I've had quite enough, of the snide guffaws

You say that we're doomed
Move over Darling
Now bust's followed boom
Moreover Darling
I'd invite you to tea, but biscuits are too dear for me
Now prices have loomed

The way, you sigh
Has me waving number ten good-bye
You can say I've just had bad luck
But the general public just thinks I'm a schmuck

You say that we're screwed
Come over Darling
Don't be so crude
Come over Darling
Please give me your love, I'm feeling so blue
I need your love, honest I do
You're my Scottish friend, and I need you to stay, stand by me
Please stand by me

Move over Darling (repeat)
(fade out)

----------------
ORIGINAL:
------------------
Our lips shouldn't touch
Move over darling
I like it too much
Move over darling
That gleam in your eyes is no big surprise anymore
Cos you fooled me before

I'm all in a spin
Move over darling
I've got to give in
Move over darling
And though it's not right, I'm too weak to fight it somehow
Cos I want you right now

The way you sigh, has me waving my conscience bye-bye
You can call me a fickle thing
But I'm practically yours forever, because

I yearn to be kissed
Move over darling
How can I resist
Move over darling
You captured my heart, and now that I'm no longer free
Make love to me

The way you sigh
Has me waving my conscience good-bye
You can call me a fickle thing
But I'm practically yours forever, because

I yearn to be kissed
Move over darling
How can I resist
Move over darling
Please give me your love, I'm longing for you
I need all your love, honest I do
You captured my heart and now that I'm no longer free

Make love to me
)x 4
Move over darling

Move over darling )x 2

Nice and slick good amtch and inspired choice of song

The ASDA of satire.

I hate purity, I hate goodness!I don't want any virtue to exist anywhere. I want everyone to be corrupt to the bones.

But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.

An acoustic guitar version would be cool!

If Darling's reshuffled in the next cabinet, it should be good fun to rewrite this - also would be a better fit. Would also like to see Gordy singing the original to Alistair.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes that would work really well. Pretty sure he is going to go, so might be worth saving and polishing against the eventuality.

Thanks Timbo.
Got an idea of rewriting it from Darling's perspective, where the "Move over Darling" is sung by a backing crowd

VERY COOL. :)

I will be most surprised if NewsRevue or the elusive Treason don't snap it up.

It's a bugger really as I've been biting my biro all week, trying to think up a credit crunch song. You've beaten me to it. :P

Thanks people!

Also hey ray and up4it, I was slightly mesmerised my your avatars gyrating in unison. I'm afraid I can't comment on your avatar's dyed eyebrows Graham, given its current orientation.

Cheers. Yeah, I gave up on finding songs that rhyme with credit crunch - Is surprisingly hard to do - just went for slipping it in somewhere in another song.

I hope you're right, so far just littered their inboxes by the looks of things. Working on another iteration so if not this week, can try again with a new angle.

Thanks for letting me know Fubsy. Made a note ages ago to write this, shoulda got on with it sooner.

Ah well, suppose it's a pretty obvious song to use.
