Hold your horses

First we have to ensure voting apparatus is up, and all loopholes are covered. I don't want to end hanging from piano wire

I've changed my mind and have a problem with the time limit now. 1 minute really isnt very long, 60 seconds goes by very fast and if its going to be strictly 1 sketch = 1 minute then in a 30 minute show that's 30 sketches, now how many sketche shows have that many sketches really. I think there should be no limit on the time but people should try not to make them overly long winded and if the committee still think its too long they can edit it etc.

Dont think the 1 minute thing will be a hard and fast rule, just an idea that its supposed to contain tight, shortish sketches. Think its been mentioned before about trying to keep sketches at one-two minutes max if possible.

There hasn't been a decision on the time limit yet. We are getting people to vote on it when we have the facility

Steve, I thought this was the opposite of that kind of desperate, self-serving cauldron of tragic delusion! NIce idea though!

I'm happy with everything is Slag's first post. As far as time limits are concerned, I don't want one. After saying that, most of my sketches aren't that long anyway.

Quite happy going with the majority on this one - original post by Slag seems pretty straight forward to me. Not too bothered either way as to time limit or not - some of the best sketches out there are more than 2 minutes long so guess that if someone wants to put one forward that is longer they are at least aware that it has less chance of 'getting in' - however if it is funny enough then I of course don't see a problem with it.

A sketch show needs to have different lengths for each sketch as it gets boring and predictable. I'm sure there will be plenty of sketches less than 60 seconds too.

Some people may call me a genius - I haven't met any though.

I agree ContainsNuts. If every sketch were approximately the same length the pace of the thing would be really monotonous. I mentioned on another thread about overly long sketches, too, and how they can be broken-up and woven around other, shorter sketches. i haven't seen if anyone commented, though, as I can't remember which unnamed sketch show thread it's on, whereabouts etc etc! I already can't keep up and nothing's happened yet - that's not good is it?

Got to admit that contains nuts might be a good title for the show.

I also thought if it's not too much work, what about running bot a TV and Radio sketch show at the same time. As we grow as a group, not everyone will get a sketch in the tv show, but those people could make or put to a radio show

I think we can safely say that a ceiling on the length of sketch won't produce a show with sketches all the same length. Not unless every writer was desperately padding out their work to hit the maximum (if a max is agreed). Even then, the group and committee editing phases will hopefully get the sketch back to shape.

It's hard trying to keep up, admitted. But brainstorming ideas between 30 people, all logging on at different times, at different frequency, is hard to manage. I've already deleted the brainstorming sessions as most of the posts now have no bearing and it was 10 pages long. We'll try and maintain a summary thread to help get people who've been off for a day or two to catch up on essentials. The essential; thread at the mo, is Sketch Show Recommends. This contains all the committee suggestions for a fair system.

That we haven't launched into it yet, without proper thought, without voting mechanisms in place, without group consensus, is a good thing, not a bad thing. It is better to disagree now than disagree at some future point.

Rosco, that radio is a suitable avenue for those writers not good enough for TV - that's blown our chances with every Radio producer that reads this thread.

my sketches tend be over rather than under, that's why i'm desperately (and selfishly!) defending the longer sketch!
