It's a qualification. At school, the exams you are given at the end of the school year are called GCSE's.

We have to study at least one forgien langague at GCSE, normally French, but it could be Spanish or German. I failed my French GCSE.

Some people are thinking of changing this system so that you would not have to study a language. They are even thinking of replacing GCSE's with a new qualification, such as a diploma.

Ah.
When we take our BAC, we must have two languages : LV1 (Langue Vivante 1) and LV2 (Langue Vivante 2). Choice of studying English, German, Spanish. We can also take a third language like Italian, Romance languages, and so on... (depend of the high school)

Im studying French and Spanish at GCSE-but we didnt have to do a langauge. I also study the English, Geography, History, Maths and Science, and RS, which obviously helps me appreciate Green Wing heaps more!
