"This house would censor music lyrics." It was British Parliamentary set-up, and I was in the first proposition team, as first speaker - the most difficult position - and our team won!
I was with this American who didn't understand my British humour; so I ran with that and took every opportunity in prep time to make fun of him a bit without him knowing.
I swear my first sentence was the only thing that stopped me from falling on my arse!

Oooh go you Scatts!
I'm off to watch some stand up! Ciao for now.

You proposed the motion then? How did you possibly win a debate calling for the censorship of lyrics? You must've been very persuasive, I can't possibly see how people could agree with that position...

We argued that freedom of expression should not compromise right to life, and safety in that life; we argued about children being protected; we argued about the two tier problems of violence and then discrimination...
My opening line was "sticks and stones would break my bones but words can never hurt me"; which I completely subverted and picked apart, and was really proud of actually! The American guy who I'd told I couldn't think of any rhetorical questions, anecdotes or witticisms looked very smug.

All sounds interesting if a little overblown.
Are you still at school Robyn? Or is this extra work for the select few?

All debating is overblown! Yestrday in order to show that, I had to argue that I'd take the vote away from women.
It's a summer course at a selective school nearby, but I would've only finished school yesterday lunchtime.

Same time as me then. Had your holiday begun the same way as me you wouldn't be missing much, I spent today delivering papers which is quite dull. So is it all debating or is it a varied summer course?

Don't gemme started! I went all feminist and argued that women were above the vote.
It really surprised me how much the Americans don't get our humour. Today I was told to "just be a prick" in my opening speech; to which I said that I didn't think it was anatomically possible for me, but I'd try. He just looked very confused...

Oh wow. Papers...
Yeah it's all debating, but my group's tutors are SO funny! They told us about all the year 13 end of school pranks, like painting "IKEA" in yellow on the blue sports hall outside wall. One year planned to release 3 pigs; numbered 1, 2, and 4, so that the schools would constantly be searching for the non-existent pig 3. They got found out though before they could do it!

However boring you think it is to be told that I was delivering papers it's ten times more boring to actually deliver them. That makes so much sense in my mind, less so when typed out.

IKEA! That's the only landmark Croydon has, giant IKEA towers. It's a depressing place.

You should get someone to record you stupid tapes to listen to as you do your shift.

That has to be on of the the weirdest suggestions I've heard. Based on past experience of yours?
