Come join me in showing your appreciation of the greatness that is Green Wing
That show is amazing, great script, great acting and just over all...er, greatness lol. I can never decide what I like the best, the surrealness or the more serious stuff.
So come on! Who likes Green Wing, and why?

I think that "Green Wing" is the best sitcom written so far in the 21st century, mind you as there are still 94 years to go, there may be better shows to come.
I love for many reasons. I love it because of the scale of the programme. Hour-long episodes, 13 regular characters, 8 writers!
The editing style, speeding up and slowing down footage gives it a sharper edge.
The characters range greatly, from Caroline and Mac who are quite realistic, to Alan and Sue who are completely of the wall.
I love the style of the show, an eligant sitcom/sketch/hospital soap opera cross, with no medical story lines.
I like the running-gags, such as Alan's relationship with Joanna, Caroline's bad luck, and the great sport that is Guyball.
I also love the actors in the show, mainly Tamsin Greig, but their all great, espcially when you consider that some of the scene are improvised.
On Wednesday 31st December 1969 GMT at 7:00 PM GMT, Aaron said:
Improvised? I swear an interview right here on this very site said that it was pretty tightly scripted! Oh well, either way, the show is still genius.
On Wednesday 31st December 1969 GMT at 7:00 PM GMT, Mark said:
There was parts that were tightly scripted yeah (they didn't pay the writers for nothing) but there were sections left open for the cast to try things out (e.g. Guy walking into Sue's office with the kid was entirely improvised on the spot).
On Wednesday 31st December 1969 GMT at 7:00 PM GMT, Aaron said:
Aha, ok, that makes sense!

I never knew about the improvisation either. As mentioned above, I thought the show was tightly scripted. One thing that is for certain though, is that it's genius!
On Wednesday 31st December 1969 GMT at 7:00 PM GMT, zooo said:
The episodes were written, then the cast improvised with the scripts, then the writers re wrote completely, using all the improvised stuff that worked well. At least that's what I've read.
It's definitely one of my favourite sitcoms. I wish they were making more! but I'm happy about the special.

Bon, je ne comprend pas tout vu que je suis française et que je regarde la série SANS sous-titres mais c'est un bon entrainement... ^_____^

We have to study at least one forgien langague at GCSE, normally French, but it could be Spanish or German. I failed my French GCSE.
Some people are thinking of changing this system so that you would not have to study a language. They are even thinking of replacing GCSE's with a new qualification, such as a diploma.
On Wednesday 31st December 1969 GMT at 7:00 PM GMT, SiLiCe said:
Ah.
When we take our BAC, we must have two languages : LV1 (Langue Vivante 1) and LV2 (Langue Vivante 2). Choice of studying English, German, Spanish. We can also take a third language like Italian, Romance languages, and so on... (depend of the high school)
(I have had my BAC last year)

Green Wing absolutely rocks!!!
I have only recently discovered it, by accident, seeing the last couple of episodes of the 2nd series and wondering what the hell I found during my channel surfing (I had never heard of it prior to that). I was just getting into the swing of it when the series ended. However, the following week, Series One episode one screened, with the rest of the episodes being screened late every week night for a couple of weeks. I have now ordered the DVDs of both episodes from Amazon Uk - they don't seem to be available in my part of the world - can't wait for them to arrive.
It is just brilliant comedy - how those actors could play out those parts without bursting into laughter I don't know. They all play their parts so well, I'm hard pushed to pick a favourite. Fantastic entertainment for those who don't always take life too seriously!
Now bring on the 'Special' and hopefully, but most unlikely, series 3.

As much as I like Green Wing, is it really good enough to have it's own forum?
I always thought it was too long at 50minutes, I think? I always hoped they would cut it down to 25 minutes and leave in the very best stuff, but parts seem to drag for me and sometimes started to lose interest.
Don't get me wrong, when it's good, it's very good but mostly it's just OK.

Oh My God!
After seeing that there was a whole sub-forum on this UK comedy I decided to hunt out a copy...
In HMV they had a boxset of series 1 & 2 for £45 or you could buy series 1 & 2 on their own for £12 each! Needless to say I chose the £24 option!
Having never seen (or heard about) this program before I did not know what to expect...
Bizarre, strange, Monty-Python-ish moments, odd, silly, weird and very, very funny are just some of the words I would use to describe this program!
So far I have just seen episodes 1-3 of the first series and can't understand how on earth I have never heard of this before!

Yep! That's right, £12 each at HMV. I had a look in Woolworths and they were £20 each or £35 for the boxset of series 1&2.

Watched first 2 episodes of series 2.
Well shot, nice editing and effects. Some solid gags. The music is loud in the mix and bloody distracting. Heap plays a great part and the chopping and changing between scenes sometimes works well but can get quickly tiresome when overdone.
There were some shockingly feeble bits too. I'm thinking the girl who wants to get pregnant reading the stages of pregnancy. Joy, depression, fainting. So old hat (BlackAdder, Red Dwarf both did something identical) and badly performed by the actress. Her faint at the end was so overdone it broke the illusion that I'm watching a character and not some actress hamming it up.
But apart from that there's enough in it to make me watch the series through and I haven't thought that about a new comedy in a long while.

Watched the whole second series (not seen first yet).
Very good episodic highly-fractured show, so patchy by its own nature, (especially the unrealistic Sue White set within a real context - by far the most disjunct character in nearly every show I've seen) but the emotional payoff at the end of the second series was a BIG letdown.
Having Mac ride off into the sunset, leaving Todd on the platform. Not good. Not even the worst person on earth would really do that. At least an enigmatic phone call or if not a quick visit to the platform to make an excuse. Riding off was a coward's way out for the character and the writers. It felt more like an episode end rather than a series end.
Okay, maybe they already knew there was to be a special but in truth a series should be a self-contained unit that makes sense within its own context. It can't make an appeal to "ah, but there's more." Red Dwarf tried that and it really peed me off. You only cheat the viewer.
People may say that not everything needs a happy end but happy or sad a film / book / series needs an ENDING and that wasn't a true ending, it was simply a jagged interruption to the continuing storyline.
Apart from that, it is by far the best comedy to come out of the UK for a long time.

A good summary SlagA! Bit odd you watched the second series first... you probably should have watched them in order as there are a few 'in jokes' in series two that can only be appreciated after having seen the first.
More generally though, if you enjoyed the second series do check out the first - most people agree it was more tightly scripted and generally the better of the two. Might be a bit odd watching it now though - it'll introduce characters you're already familiar with.
