I think 'After You've Gone' would be more popular on cbbc to be honest.

I agree. Especially considering Danni Harmer's on there with Tracey Beaker.

Phew. Finally got around to watching this. Not as rip-roaringly funny as some of the other episodes, but still far more laugh out loud moments than most programmes we've been getting recently, and very enjoyable on the whole.

'Tis rather odd though - whilst Alex definitely gets the best lines and scenes, the character really feels underused. Far more attention and humour could come from him I think, and Ryan Sampson has shown a good variety of skills considering what he's been given. I think there's a lot of potential there, so hopefully he'll get a bigger part in any future episodes. (And a bigger paycheque to boot! ;))

Do you not find him a touch creepy though?

A bit too good.

No, not really. An eccentric character certainly. A little 'out there' and unconcerned what others think about him (not enough people like that, IMO), but not "creepy". What makes you say that?

I don't know.

He's like Nick from My Family but I thought he was quite a good character. It might be because he's a youngish lad that makes it a bit odd. And he LOOKS a bit creepy too. Though, equally, he's the funniest thing in the show.

Danni Harmer on the other hand is so rubbish it's painful. She can't act, nor deliver a line.

A decent script would make this show better. The issue My Family had was it had too many easy outlets. The ditzy girl and the idiot dentist couple - too easy to have them say stupid things. There's more scope for jokes in AYG, but they haven't really bothered.

I don't think Danni Harmer's rubbish. She has a more mainstream acting style, maybe. If that doesn't sound too much like I'm talking out of my arse.

I see creepiness in Nick from My Family, I must admit. But not in Alex.

Hmm, interesting points. Ok. Well, I suppose you're right that there's a bit of a 'manic' look about him (particularly through those very large eyes), but I reckon it's more projected through the character than actually Ryan Sampson himself. From what I recall, he was a bit more outlandish in the first than the second series too. Hopefully he'll be cast in something else soon though, so we'll be able to get a better idea of what he can really do, and how his look transfers between roles.

Dani, I'm not entirely sure about. I really hated her at first. Thought she came across as a proper twat. Buuut the character's grown on me, and on the whole I don't think is too bad. Does tend to go up and down a bit, I'll admit, but having not seen her in any more than a few clips outside of AYG (oh, apart from that Coming of Age pilot), I'm not sure if that's to do with the lines and such, or her acting. I know what you mean, but I'm not sure I'd agree to quite that extent. She's been in "the business" since 1997 (says Mr. Wikipedia), but as far as I'm aware has only had two real main roles, so perhaps needs to be able to push herself a bit further? Either way, I don't think she's entirely unbelievable as the kind of late-teens-spoilt-ish-girl that the character is. Passable at worst.

I'd definitely agree here. Like I said, there's a lot of potential in Alex, and Ryan's shown he's more than capable, so he really should get a bigger part than he's had to date. Might not have been the biggest name in the show by quite a way, but I think he's had almost universal praise here (even before he was a member), and clearly the "shining star" of the show IMO.

I like her. And not just because she's drop-dead sexy (I'm the same age as her, so I'm allowed to say that). She can do comedy brilliantly. She's funny, even when she just yells, "ALEX!"
